Running to help rebuild HaitiPaula-Lynn Duke has set out to make some changes in her community. The Cole Harbour resident got off the coach, laced up her sneakers and started to run. She raced a few times, had fun and is enjoying her new found health. OK, so that is not that different from many other moms in metro. Running is a popular sport. But to Duke, running is more than a sport, more than a way to stay healthy. To her, running has become the very thing that will open people’s hearts and change their minds. Her idea started at her church, Hillside Wesleyan on Ritcey Crescent . Every year the church would send a team of about eight people to the poor town of Babaco. While there the team would help to rebuild, and teach the Haitian people how to become their own leaders within the community. Last year, the team from Hillside started a program called Sew Hopeful, where they taught Haitians to sew garments to sell and to create their own businesses.
